Apple Crumble

Granny Smith Apples -Briggs and Eggers Orchard - Wilcox, AZ

Apple Filling Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into wedges

  • 1 Tbs. All-Purpose flour

  • ½ c. Granulated sugar

  • 2 Tbs. Lemon juice

  • 1 tsp. Ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp. Ground ginger (optional)

Crumble Topping Ingredients

  • 1 c. Rolled (Old Fashioned) oats

  • 1 c. All-Purpose flour

  • 1 c. Brown sugar (lightly packed)

  • ½ tsp. Baking powder

  • 1 tsp. Ground cinnamon

  • ½ c. (1 stick) Butter, melted

  • Generous pinch of salt

Procedure:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Put apples in a mixing bowl with flour, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and lemon juice and mix to coat evenly. Spread mixture in 1 1//2 qt. baking dish or 9” skillet.

  3. Put crumble topping ingredients in a bowl and mix by hand until it becomes clumpy and crumbly, like wet sand. Spread topping over apples.

  4. Bake for 30-40 minutes until topping is golden brown and apple filling is bubbly.

  5. Remove from oven and allow to cool at least 10 minutes.

  6. Serve warm. Add vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce for an extra special treat.
